Chapter Eleven
It felt good to be on the hunt again. Lurking in the shadows, waiting for the perfect candidate was true excitement. The best places he found to search this late at night were clubs or bars. Since this was a small town, clubs were non-existent and the bars were small and dingy. They were nothing like the ones in big cities where people tried to dress up for a night out.
If he had more time he could follow his victim for several days, pick up her daily routine and have a plan worked out. But he didn’t have time. He needed to execute and move on.
The pain in his chest was excruciating, he had to struggle to breathe. Being particular about his victim was a luxury he couldn’t afford. He needed his high now. A small house that had transformed into a bar called out to him. Crenshaw parked his car at the darkest end of the parking lot, shut it off and settled into the seat.
It wasn’t long before a young blonde woman walked toward the entrance. She was mumbling to herself, an angry look fixed on her face. He recognized the look of self-righteousness. He’d seen it hundreds of times. A tingle grew in his belly. He’d found his mark.
He planned his ritual of death while he waited for her to leave. His only problem was he wasn’t familiar with the area, so where to carry out his torture was a concern. No matter, he could drive around until the perfect spot called out to him.
It wasn’t long before his object of desire came stumbling back out the door. Hot on her heels was a man ranting at her, his arms raised in the air as he told her how he was sick of her. The woman screamed back, demanding he come home with her. How dare he slut around a bar for other women when she was the one taking care of him, paying his bills and feeding him.
Yes, he’d found the perfect candidate for his pleasure tonight. He had to contain his excitement. He needed to be focused and on guard for the abduction. She was fiery and wild, taking her would difficult but not impossible.
Finally, the man pushed her away and went back inside the building, ignoring the profanities hurled at him by his tormentor. When she opened the door to go after him she ran into a large, burly man who pushed her back out.
Crenshaw sat with his hand on the door handle, waiting to see what she would do next. When she turned and started back through the parking lot, she was distracted, not at all attentive to her surroundings. People who didn’t pay attention made for easy pickings.
He waited until she entered the dimmest lit area and exited the car. Years of practice made him light on his feet. No sound came from his steps as he approached. He came within an arm’s reach and grabbed her by the hair, at the same time covering her mouth with his free hand.
